Your visit

We understand that coming to hospital can be a worrying time for patients, however being prepared can help you feel more relaxed about your visit.

You will also have the confidence in knowing that we are committed to delivering quality care in a safe and clean environment, governed by NHS standards.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • We will always provide you with information to enable you to make your decision and ask for your consent before initiating an intervention or treatment.

  • You have the option of having a chaperone present during your treatment or examination.

  • We are able to offer a wide range of private services for children. Parents or guardians should always accompany children under the age of 16.

  • The hospital entrance and exits are designed to enable easy access for wheelchairs. If you require any assistance, please contact a member of the team.

COMING FOR AN APPOINTMENT

If you are coming to Harrogate Harlow for an appointment, you may also be offered a blood test or a diagnostic test on the day. We want you to feel comfortable so wear something that is loose with sleeves that can be easily rolled up.

There may be preparations that you need to take, like not eating or drinking before certain tests, you will be fully informed of these before so that you are prepared.

If you are taking medication it is helpful if you can bring them along to show your consultant.

COMING TO STAY AT HARROGATE HARLOW

Our friendly team of staff are available to speak to before, during or after your stay with any queries or concerns.

Before you come to stay with us, there may be certain preparations you need to make, for example not eating or drinking before a general anaesthetic. We will advise you of these before you come.

Your time of arrival will be confirmed in your admission letter or by telephone call. Please be aware that this admission time isn’t the time of your procedure.

To make your stay more comfortable we suggest that you bring with you:

  • Dressing gown
  • Sleepwear
  • Slippers (flat and with a back where possible)
  • Books or magazines
  • Toiletries, although you will receive a complimentary toiletry pack
  • Comfortable clothes for rehabilitation and physiotherapy. Shorts are advisable for patients undergoing hip and knee surgery.
  • Comfortable clothes to go home in
  • Medications (with original packing and labels where possible)

FINDING US

The hospital is well signposted as you enter Harrogate on the Wetherby Road. Please use our postcode, HG2 7SK, when using a sat nav to find us.

The main car park is situated at the front of the hospital.

If you are undergoing a procedure it is advisable that you do not drive home. If you are being dropped off by relatives or friends, we have an allocated drop-off bay outside the main entrance.

There is a taxi drop off point immediately outside the main hospital entrance, and taxis can be ordered from the main entrance of the hospital.

Several buses serve Harrogate District Hospital on a regular basis. There are bus departure screens detailing local bus times in both the main hospital reception and the Strayside Wing entrance.

Harrogate (bus station, stands 10 & 11) → Starbeck (High Street) → Knaresborough (bus station, stand A)
The 1, 1A, 1B and 1C buses all run between Harrogate, Starbeck and Knaresborough and serve Harrogate District Hospital. The buses use the bus stop at the side of the Hospital on Knaresborough Road, which is a five minute walk from the main entrance of the Hospital.

On Mondays – Saturdays, these buses usually run every 7-8 minutes, whereas on Sundays, the buses usually run every 15 minutes (please note that this may vary depending on the time of day). View the timetable and approximate journey times.

Harrogate (bus station, stand 9) → Wetherby (bus station, stand A) → Leeds (city bus station, stand 24)
The 770 and 771 buses run between Harrogate, Starbeck and Knaresborough, and use the bus stop at the side of the Hospital on Wetherby Road. The bus stop is a five minute walk from the main entrance of the Hospital and a two minute walk from the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre.

On Mondays–Saturdays these buses usually run twice an hour, whereas on Sundays and bank holidays the buses usually run every hour (please note that this may vary depending on the time of day). View the timetable and approximate journey times.

Harrogate District Hospital is located midway between the three train stations in Harrogate.

The main train station, Harrogate, is a 20 minute walk over the Stray and through town. Trains run regularly to both York (40 mins away) and Leeds (37 mins away). There is a manned ticket desk and a taxi rank immediately outside the main entrance of the station.

Hornbeam Park train station is a 25 minute walk through residential streets. This station is closer for people travelling from Leeds. There is a free car park at Hornbeam Park station, as well as a machine to buy tickets.

Starbeck train station is a 20 minute walk through residential streets. This station is closer for people travelling from York.

If you are or your visitors are able to cycle here we have secure cycle storage facilities located outside the main entrance of the hospital.

If you are travelling from overseas the nearest airport to Harrogate District Hospital is Leeds Bradford, which is 14 miles away. It takes approximately 35 minutes to drive from Leeds Bradford Airport to Harrogate District Hospital.
