Consultant Orthopaedics and Trauma
I graduated from the University of Leeds in the class of 2000, before entering into surgical training in the Yorkshire region. After completing a postgraduate Masters (MSc) by Research in Mechanical Engineering in 2006, I was appointed to the Yorkshire Orthopaedics and Trauma higher surgical training programme.
Developing an interest in upper limb, sports and arthroscopic surgery, I went on to achieve my Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (Trauma and Orthopaedics) in 2010. I progressed to higher Fellowship training in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the internationally-renowned Wrightington Upper Limb Unit, and trained with Professors Trail, Funk and Watts. I finished my Orthopaedic training in Leeds and was given the opportunity to further my specialist education at the Sheffield Shoulder and Elbow Unit.
In 2012, I was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with an interest in Shoulder and Elbow surgery at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. I have developed a busy arthroscopic (keyhole) shoulder and elbow service, as well as providing an upper limb trauma service and a shoulder and elbow replacement practice. I practice privately in Harrogate and Leeds.
My specialist interests are the arthroscopic (keyhole) treatment of shoulder injuries, particularly reconstructive surgery for shoulder instability and rotator cuff tears. Similarly, I have an interest in treating sports-related elbow injuries, with minimally invasive, arthroscopic and open techniques; I also offer elbow replacement surgery.
I have an interest in research, having published a number of articles in peer reviewed orthopaedic journals and written specialist book chapters for both shoulder and elbow textbooks.
Inspired by the teaching I’ve received, I have a number of teaching roles and regularly train junior surgeons; I lecture on shoulder and elbow conditions and demonstrate on international practical shoulder courses.
Having played rugby and rowed at school and university, I enjoy sport. I currently enjoy recreational tennis with colleagues, running, cycling and spending time with my family. I am a member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and the Steward’s Enclosure at Henley Royal Regatta.
